13 Sep Google Added a Stories-Like Option for Photos
Following the success of Stories feature on Instagram, Facebook platform also decided to start developing this feature. Google’s efforts to do the same have generally failed.
- Google tried to replicate Facebook with Google+
- Google tried to replicate Facebook Messenger with Allo
- Google tried to replicate Snapchat with Duo and then with Shoelace
- Google-owned YouTube recently also added Stories
So, as a new try, this week, Google has launched Stories feature for Google Photos, called ‘Memories’.
As explained by Google:
“Starting today, you’ll see photos and videos from previous years at the top of your gallery in a new feature we’re calling Memories. While you might recognize these stories format from social media, these memories are your personal media, privately presented to you so you can sit back and enjoy some of your best moments.”
Essentially, new feature looks quite similar to Instagram Stories, but it’s not predestined for public consumption – it gives the possibility to share specific Memories to other apps. By adding this feature to Google Photos, social media giant hopes to get more people opening Google Photos more often.
